Terms of Service
Daruma (“Daruma: Moving to Japan”) · Last updated 27 July 2026
These terms are a contract between you and the operator of Daruma (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use Daruma.
1. What Daruma is
Daruma is an informational and organisational tool for people moving to or living in Japan. It generates task checklists, stores documents you upload, and provides an AI assistant that answers questions about relocation and daily life.
2. The AI Coach
The AI Coach is generated by an automated language model. It can be wrong, out of date, or confidently mistaken, and it does not know your full circumstances. Do not rely on it alone for any decision with legal, financial or immigration consequences. Do not submit information to it that you are not comfortable sending to a third-party processor — see the Privacy Policy.
3. Your account
You must be at least 13 years old, and old enough to form a binding contract where you live. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for activity under your account. Give us accurate information — the app’s output is only as good as what you tell it. Tell us promptly at support@darumajapanlife.xyz if you suspect unauthorised access.
4. Subscriptions, trials and billing
- Daruma offers auto-renewing monthly and annual subscriptions. The exact price, currency and billing period are shown on the purchase screen before you buy, and are set by the App Store for your region.
- New subscribers may be offered a 7-day free trial. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, the subscription begins and your store account is charged.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the same price and period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Manage or cancel a subscription in your device’s account settings — not in Daruma. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its own policies, not by us. We cannot issue App Store refunds directly.
- We may change prices. Changes do not affect the period you have already paid for, and we will give you notice and the chance to cancel before a change takes effect.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of everything you upload. You grant us a limited licence to store, transmit and process it solely to operate the service for you — for example, storing a document in your Vault or sending a question to the AI Coach. We do not use your content to train AI models.
You must not upload anything unlawful, or anything you do not have the right to upload. If you upload a document containing another person’s personal information, you are responsible for having a lawful basis to do so.
6. Acceptable use
Do not misuse the service. Specifically, do not: reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code; interfere with or overload the service; access another user’s account or data; scrape or bulk-export content; resell or redistribute the service; or use it to break any law, including immigration law.
7. Availability
We aim to keep Daruma running but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. We may modify, suspend or discontinue features. Third-party services the app relies on may themselves fail or change.
8. Termination
You may stop using Daruma and delete your account at any time in the app. We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these terms or use the service unlawfully. On termination your right to use the service ends; deletion of your data is handled as described in the Privacy Policy.
9. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Daruma is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the information in the app is accurate, complete or current.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or opportunities, including any loss arising from a missed deadline, a rejected application, or reliance on information in the app. Our total aggregate liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or USD 50. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is material we will update the date above and notify you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Daruma after that means you accept the new terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Japan, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and the courts of Japan have exclusive jurisdiction — except where consumer protection law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring a claim locally.
13. Apple
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Daruma or its content, and has no obligation to provide support or handle any claim relating to the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
